letter to the editor.

This was in the warrensburg paper.

Dear Editor,

Sunday was Go Skateboarding Day and the Warrensburg Skatepark was buzzing with barbecue and bros.
The sweat was pouring, water and grape soda were pounded, and there were hammers and slams aplenty.
At 35, I was easily the oldest skater in attendance. But I took my beatings with the best of them, battled the incredible heat and enjoyed every minute.
It was one of the best sessions I’ve had in years, and everyone there had Andy Wissman and Canvas Skateboards to thank. Thanks, guys, for convincing me to jump into the fray.
As a father on Father’s Day, celebrating the summer solstice on Go Skateboarding Day was awesome.
I just checked out the coverage of Kansas City’s Go Skateboarding Day in the Star and saw that hundreds of skaters turned out at the Penn Valley Skatepark. They had some pros, including the incredible Sean Malto, of Kansas. How cool to see that park thickly lined with spectators and riders.
No pros came to Warrensburg and neither did the local media. Maybe one of us skaters should have called. There were virtually no spectators, save for the pool traffic.
It would have been nice to see more parents and family members there to cheer our local rippers. These kids shred.
They get along amazingly well and certainly didn’t deserve the insult that came with the installation of the security camera shortly after the park opened.
The public money used to install that stupid camera should have been used for a light pole or two at the park.
Anyway, here’s to another great Go Skateboarding Day. I’m looking forward to the next one already.

Matt Bird-Meyer
Warrensburg

I’m totes famous.
